KUALA LUMPUR: Macaroons may just be the next big thing among confectionery lovers.

In a demonstration organised by Puratos Malaysia Sdn Bhd, technical manager of PT Puratos Indonesia Chef Adang Hendra recently shared his recipes for cakes, cookies, and chocolates with customers for Ramadan and Hari Raya celebrations.

The highlight of his demonstration was making lemon touch, a combination of cake and macaroons using Puratos's easy-to-mix products.

With more bakeries and cafes introducing macaroons in their menus, the biscuit is becoming increasingly popular in Malaysia.

Macaroons are thin, flavourful meringue cookies with butter cream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies.

The confectionery has a smooth domed top with a ruffled circumference and flat base. It is mildly moist and easily melts in the mouth.

General manager of Puratos Malaysia Sdn Bhd Christine Hiew said Puratos regularly organises bakery, patisserie and chocolate demonstrations.

"We are pleased to share Adang's expertise with our customers. His delicious recipes are easy to follow," she said.

In-house chefs at the Puratos Innovation Centre are constantly experimenting with new techniques and recipes.

"We believe in sharing innovative ideas with our customers.

"So our chefs are constantly creating new and exciting recipes. Customers today are more discerning and attach greater importance to the quality of their food," said Hiew.

Adang also made date bread and cafe praline using Puratos products.

His recipes used ingredients such as the S500 powder improver -- a flagship product which is as popular today as it was over 30 years ago when it was launched.

It contains enzymes ideal for bread making and incorporates an improver of powdered fat.

The O-tentic is an active component for sourdough.

It gives breads a unique taste reminiscent of the good old days.

It is a new product for making traditional breads with a strong hydrated dough and a open-crumb structure.

Other ingredients include Belcolade, which is Belgian chocolate produced exclusively at the Belgium plant.

It is quality chocolate made with 100 per cent cocoa butter.

To make macaroons easily and quickly, the answer is the Puratos Macaroons Mix, which takes the hassle out of the preparation of smooth, macaoron shells.

Puratos Malaysia is a subsidiary of Puratos in Groot-Bijgaarden, Brussels, Belgium.

It is an international group producing ingredients for the bakery, patisserie and the chocolate industries.
